Underground Medical Treatment

Sarah collapsed on Thursday. Considering everything I've done and been through I don't think I've ever been so scared in my life. Fortunately it didn't happen out in public. I can't imagine what would have happened if we had to take an ambulance to a real hospital. Not only do we not have any insurance, but I've been warned from several sources that the gifted have a high tendency to disappear from hospitals if they individual is known to the O.S.I.R. I imagine the hospitals have nothing to do with it, but that instead it is their surveillance cameras that are used against us. Agents show up with legitimate arrest warrants, or with cover stories of rich relatives insisting on private care, or inaccurate but still legal paperwork for involuntary admission to a mental institute.

Back to what happened. I immediately called my Protectorate emergency contact number. They got a doctor over to us within fifteen minutes. Meanwhile I had called Myron for protection getting Sarah to the doctor's clinic, and Jack for added muscle. Myron, Jack, and Jenny showed up shortly after the doctor. I don't know who called Jenny, but in hindsight it was a good idea. You never know nowadays when they want to drop a patient's temperature to retain brain health in a collapse. We bundled Sarah into the back of the doctor's car with me. The others followed behind, with the address in case we got separated. Myron did have to make a couple of helpful people believe that they hadn't seen anything out of the ordinary.

The diagnosis the doctor gave us was a pulmonary embolism. In other words, a blood clot. He was unclear on the cause, but sometime after she came to Sarah suggested it could be in her family history. We stayed at the clinic until late this afternoon when the doctor sent us home. She's on blood thinners for a couple days yet until we see him again. Otherwise she seems okay. It didn't appear to be as dangerous as it certainly could have been. I don't like saying it or thinking it but some people die from this. I'm very grateful she's still with me. I don't know what I'd do without her.
