Every journey no matter how long begins with a first step. We made one such step this week. Melvin has been working like there is no tomorrow on tracking down the blogosphere and conspiracy-nets people responsible for the murder of Parwin Chaudhry. You might remember that some of them traced back to the name Malcolm Jonovich, who was under the control of a Domine. Melvin was able to trace one of those posters back further to a live human. There was no guarantee that we would find anything other than another man with a block of missing time, but we had to try.

It was Thursday that we made our move. The man lived in a suburban home in a quiet neighborhood, distancing him from any of the other going-ons. There was no ready surveillance in the area so we enlisted the aid of Madam Sarcova. Melvin sent a couple wireless cameras with me and told me where to position them so that he had at least a little coverage of his own to the exterior of the place.

Myron and I went to the house posing as salesmen. When Myron insisted the man let us enter to demonstrate our product the man resisted his command and we knew there was still a Domine in the picture. We immediately barged in. The man made a beeline for his Z-Phone. I held Myron back a moment until he had dialed and then snatched the phone across the room to me. The man came at me and I gently lifted him off of the floor. I sent the number to Melvin and Myron started looking around the house.

Melvin came up with nothing on the phone number. It was the kind of business number that has an answering service attached and anyone with the password can access. It had no messages and none stored in any memory that Melvin could immediately get at. Instead Myron found an interesting clue.

The man had a hacking manual that had been made at a print shop. It included instructions for hiding what you are doing online, how to fake being someone else, and how to get information out of different places using ready-made software available online on the dark web. Also included in the manual were some lose handwritten notes and some other notes in the margins. I left the manual with Jenny to see what she could find off of it. That was after she'd taken a couple hours to check the house for anything else that seemed out of place.

Sarah and Myron found the Domine. There was nothing to do with it, but leave it there. We didn't know how long it would take its maker to discover our intrusion so we left as soon as possible. Hopefully this first step will lead to more in the right direction.
